Check out this great selfie with Secretary of State John Kerry from today’s swearing-in ceremony in Morocco. Thanks to Dominic McNear for taking such a great photo and congratulations to him and all of the new Volunteers!
So, fun story. I was sitting at Couscous Friday with my neighbors this afternoon, bhal dima, and the news was one. The mom was translating for me, since I don’t know MSA, when John Kerry appears on the screen.
“Where is he?” I ask.
“He’s in Morocco,” Layla tells me. “In the capital.”
“When?” I ask, since I was in the capital just a few days ago.
She shrugs, unsure, which is when the screen shifted to John Kerry presiding over swearing-in. My country director was on the stage with him. “He’s here right now,” I told my neighbors. “That is happening right now. I know that lady.”
Then the screen panned to the group of volunteers being sworn in, several of whom I know. “Hey,” I all but shouted. “I know them!” Luckily I didn’t have any couscous in my hand at the time, or it would have been all over their living room.
I think this is the first time I’ve even just happened to see people I know on TV. I would say it’s the first time I’ve seen people I know on my Tumblr feed, but I’ve seen people I know via the PC Tumblr a couple of times before. Always surreal when a friend pops up inbetween pictures of hockey players on my dash.
